RPYO 2019-2020 New Student AUDITION Information
Rochester Philharmonic Youth Orchestra (RPYO) New Student Auditions
When & Where:
All auditions are at RPYO’s rehearsal venue, First Unitarian Church at 220 Winton Rd South. The times and instrument groupings may change as they depend upon the number of auditioning students.
Sun 4/7/19: 5:00-6:00PM Percussion
Mon 4/8/19: 4-6PM Brass & some others depending on registrations
Tue 4/9/19: 5:30-9:00PM Woodwinds & some others depending on registrations
Sat 4/13/19: 9AM-4PM Strings
There are anticipated openings for all instruments in 2019-2020 except for tuba.
Yearly Deadline for New Student Applications is March 1
How to Apply:
Fill out an online audition application (opens in a new window). Application link will be made live after Jan 1, 2019
Qualifications for Applicants:
Student is currently in grades 7 to 11.
Student is at an advanced playing level, equivalent in most cases to NYSSMA level 6.
Student interested in playing classical music.
Student wishes to be musically inspired by working with talented professional musicians.
The Audition Process:
Students will play for the RPYO Music Director and RPO musicians for a total of 8 minutes.
Students will play without accompaniment the following:
1. One or two short musical selections of the student’s choice (~5min total) containing contrasting slow/expressive and fast/technical passages.
2. Standard orchestral excerpts that will be provided upon application.
3. An adjudicator-selected, sight-reading passage.
