FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Is the tour mandatory?

Providing opportunities for further musical growth, ensemble building, and cultural awareness are the primary purposes of RPYO tours and trips. Every student is required to participate in all tours that are scheduled parts of the RPYO program.

It is the policy of the RPYO that any student who has earned membership in the orchestra and has met annual dues should have the opportunity to participate in RPYO tours regardless of the student's financial circumstances. The RPYO will strive to keep tour costs reasonable, to clearly communicate policy issues and tour costs to auditioning students, and to provide a variety of options for students to raise funds to help with travel costs.

Will there be fundraising opportunities?

Yes, each registered participant has a link they can share with friends and family to donate directly to their tour account!

I am still not sure I can pay for this. Are there any additional opportunities for scholarships?

In case of financial difficulties, a student may submit a written request for tour financial assistance (a tour scholarship) to the RPYO Staff and Advisory Council. The written request should include enough pertinent financial and personal information to clearly demonstrate the student's need as well as their willingness to pursue fundraising options. 

The RPYO Staff and Advisory Council will have the sole authority:

• To determine the validity of any request for a tour scholarship

• To deny or award scholarships (in whole or in part), and

• To set terms under which scholarships may be granted

What does tuition cover?

All scheduled activities

Motorcoach transportation

All lodging

Breakfast and Dinner everyday

Necessary equipment rental (percussion, chairs, stands, harp, etc.)

Dedicated 24-hour tour managers

Can parents join?

Though all of our parent chaperone spots are filled, parents are more than welcome to join us in February. Please note that if you would like to participate in any capacity, you will need to register and pay tour fees.

Can friends/family attend concerts on the tour?

Yes, please do! Email Barbara at bbrown@rpo.org for ticket information.

Do I need a passport?

Passports are required for all ACIS trips traveling abroad except those to Canada, where a passport is only required if you are flying into the country or if you are aged 19 or over. You are responsible for obtaining your own passport, so please don’t delay! Visit your post office or a local office of the federal government for an application form. Note that some countries require that passports be valid for six months after you return to the United States. Please be sure that yours is up-to-date.
